The Art of Making A DIY Wooden Toy Chest For A Cherished Christmas Gift

In an era of electronic gadgets, seldom think to shop for a wooden gift item that will last long for years without much care and attention. However, there are still, many who value wooden gift items, and more if they are handcrafted. With Christmas knocking at the door, for all those who are thinking about a thoughtful gift for their loved ones, let’s have a look at the art of making a DIY wooden toy chest.

Gather the Essential Tools

Without tools, it is impossible to execute a DIY project. The tools include safety gloves, glasses, chalk line, carpentry pencil, drill machinery, tape measure, jigsaw, and so on.

Build the Frame

Build the side panels first and keep on checking that whether the corners are at right-angles or not. To get the right dimensions of wooden panels,  one can search over the web as there is no lack of DIY wood toy box tutorials that are with images. There are also free woodworking plans on numerous websites from which one can draw inspiration.

Go for the Box Floor

For the bottom, add wooden stats next to each other without leaving any gaps. Make sure they are cut in right size to fit in an exact manner. Use galvanized screws and glue for a professional fitting.

Build the Lid

Before starting this step, do sanding of the wooden panel to be used for the lid by a coarse sandpaper or an orbital sander. Use good quality hinges to fix it with the box while ensuring that the lid is perfectly centered.

Add Caster Wheels

This step is optional. One can choose to add or not add castor wheels at the bottom to move the toy box wherever they want.  Use small nuts and bolts to secure it to the bottom panel of the wooden toy chest.

Last but not the least, one can paint the wooden box or keep it simple. For a Christmas gift, it is best to write a nice message or draw some Chrismas trees on the front panel of the box with bright colored paint. As there goes a lot of sweat in making a handcrafted wooden toy chest, loved ones will appreciate the gift, and will display it with pride on the Christmas Eve.
